Born in Missouri and raised in the small town of Lowry City, Sen. Delbert Scott attended Southwest Missouri State College and graduated with a teaching degree. He taught school for four years and returned home to join the family hardware and home furnishings business where he remains active today. After serving 18 years in the Missouri House of Representatives, Sen. Scott was elected to the Missouri Senate in 2002. Elected four times to leadership positions in the Missouri House of Representatives. Sen. Scott has been elected to senate leadership in each of his senate terms.
Senator Scott has been active in his community - serving as president of the Lowry City Chamber of Commerce, secretary of the Lowry City Industrial Development Authority, and elected to the Lowry City Board of Aldermen in 1984. He is a deacon at the Lowry City Church of God (Holiness), served for 15 years as the activities director at the Harmony Hill Youth Camp (near Fulton), and has written and published teaching materials and Sunday School curriculum for "The Way, Truth & Life."
Singing has been a long-time passion for Sen. Scott. He has performed in organized singing groups since he was a teenager and was a member of the General Assembly Gospel Singers. The group has performed patriotic and gospel music across the state of Missouri - from small churches all the way to professional venues, including singing our national anthem at Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and St. Louis Cardinals games. Sen. Scott sang bass in the group Master's Four Quartet. He is featured on the group's album entitled "It's Time to Sing."
As a delegate to district and state Republican conventions in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008, an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention (RNC) in 2000, and as a delegate to the RNC in New York in 2004, and Minneapolis-St. Paul in 2008. Sen. Scott represented his district and state with pride. In 1996, he was the 4th District Republican Elector. And in 1988, Sen. Scott (at the time a representative), was a delegate for the American Council of Young Political Leaders in India. Sen. Scott has been involved in numerous legislative conventions and study groups. He currently serves as a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Senator Scott is a four time recipient of the Missouri Farm Bureau "Friend of Agriculture" award. He has also been honored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise" award, the Associated Industries of Missouri "Voice of Missouri" award, the Missouri Community College Association "Distinguished Legislator" award, and has received "Legislator of the Year" honors from the Missouri Propane Gas Association, the Missouri Recreational Dealers Association, the Missouri Order of the Pachyderms, the Missouri Medical Association, and the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians. Sen. Scott has also received the Missouri Hospital Association's 2005 "Health Policy Leadership" award and the 2007 Champion for Children Chrystal Wagon Award from Cardinal Glennon Hospital. Scott has also received awards from
Professional Associations including Chiropractors, Private Investigators, Dental Hygienists, Architects, and Insurance Agents.
Senator Scott was born Sept. 9, 1949, in Clinton. He now resides in Lowry City with his wife Donna. They have three grown children, Todd, Timothy, and Tiffany, and three grandsons, Landen, Clay, and Brennan.
