SCS/SB 1004 - Currently, the statute establishing the crime of endangering the welfare of a minor is known as "Hope's Law". This act renames it "Hope's, Karra's and Jocelyn's Law". Under this act, endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree is an unclassified felony with an authorized term of imprisonment not to exceed twenty years when the person when the person creates a substantial risk to the life of a child under the age of five by shaking him or her. Currently, such crime is a class C felony, punishable by 1 to 7 years of imprisonment.
This act is similar to HB 2186 (2010).
