SB 965 - The act requires any electric company that generates electricity from a nuclear power plant to pay a surcharge to the state of 1/10th of 1 cent per kilowatt-hour for any electricity sold outside of its service area. The revenue generated from the surcharge is designated for school districts located within a 10-mile radius of the nuclear power plant, with the funding amount based on the percentage of land each district has within the area. The funding must be used by the school districts for nuclear emergency preparedness, planning and hazard mitigation. ERIKA JAQUES
