The Mid-Missouri Soccer Club won the Copa Catalunya Tournament in Blanes Spain.
The squad, primarily composed of recent area high school graduates and coached by Southern Boone High School’s Chris Miller, went 4-0-2 during the tournament against teams from Norway, Sweden and Spain. Kelsey Sanders, a Jefferson City graduate and current William Woods player, scored the only goal in the championship win over Norway.
Recent Southern Boone graduate Tillie Bill led the Missouri team with seven goals in seven games, which included a victory over a French team while spending three days in that country before the tournament started.
Team members included Lauren and Liz Robb (Hickman/Central Methodist University); Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City); Tillie Bill, Kelby Wheeler, Jessica Bennett, Hannah Schiltz and Mackenzie Magner (Southern Boone); Sara Ogar (Mexico); Kara Henry (Fulton); Kristen Pelley and Katie Klingemann (William Woods); Kali Kuse and Morgan Henry (Camdenton); and Kursten Davenport (Lee’s Summit West’s).

Homes for Our Troops, an organization that builds specially adapted houses for veterans who are paralyzed or have had amputations, spent much of Tuesday (January 26, 2010) collecting applications from volunteers who wanted to help build a home in Columbia for Staff Sgt. Robert Canine. The recruiting event was held at Lowe's Home Improvement and was the group's first in Missouri.
Most of the volunteers signing up for this project were veterans. The Missouri Credit Union Association is a sponsor for the house, the first that Homes for Our Troops will be building in Missouri.
