The University of Missouri Flagship Council honored Senator Kurt Schaefer, Senate Appropriations Committee Chair, at the Flagship Council Board meeting on July 30th. Dave Griggs with the Flagship Council presented a plaque recognizing the Senator's exemplary leadership and extraordinary determination and commitment to Missouri Public Higher Education and his willingness to go above and beyond in the support of the Council and Higher Education in our state.

Members of the Harrisburg women’s basketball team, along with three of their coaches, visited the Capitol on Tuesday. The team claimed the Class 2 title this year over New Haven, winning first place for the second year in a row. The team was introduced in the Senate and a resolution was presented the coaches. Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff for their success again this season.

Coach Haith and the Mizzou basketball team visited the Capitol. They were accompanied by UM President Tim Wolfe and MU Chancellor Brady Deaton. I was able to recognize the team on the Senate floor for their successful final year in the Big 12 Conference and presented them with a resolution. Coach Haith was also recognized with a resolution for his successful first year coaching at Missouri and for being named the Henry Iba Coach of the Year and the Associated Press Coach of the Year. Coach Haith and the players stayed at the Capitol to sign posters and other items. All of us here at the Capitol were pleased to have had the chance to meet these exceptional athletes. Senator Schaefer introduced 11 students who attended our National History Day at the Capitol. Each student assembled their history exhibit on the 3rd floor rotunda for the day. John Swift, a student of Columbia Catholic School and a resident of Boone County, put together a wonderful exhibit titled Dred Scott: Debate over the Rights of Slaves. Congratulations to all of these young individuals and their pursuit of academics.
