HCS/HB 114 - This act creates the "Show Me Heroes Education Fund." Upon appropriations, the fund shall be used solely to provide and manage tuition assistance to qualified military personnel. The term "qualified military personal" is defined in the act, and the fund shall expire one year after the effective date of the act (Section 41.213). This provision is identical to HB 857 (2013).
The act also authorizes the issuance of a military medallion, medal and certificate of appreciation to any veteran who served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, or the Vietnam War as a member of the Missouri National Guard regardless of whether the veteran is a resident of Missouri (Sections 42.170.1, 42.200.1, 42.220.1).
These sections are identical to HB 450 (2013).
The act creates an exemption from the proof of residency and domicile requirement for the purposes of school registration when the family of a student living in Missouri co-locates to live with other family members or in a military family support community because one or both of the student's parents are serving on specified military orders (Section 167.020).
This provision is identical to HCS/HB 159 (2013).
The act requires public postsecondary institutions to accept credits for courses that the military awarded to personnel as part of their military training if the courses meet certain standards for academic credit (173.1158.1).
Under the act, members of the armed forces with health-related professional licenses or certificates that are in good standing when entering active duty will remain in good standing while on active duty. Renewal of these licenses or certificates while the member is on active duty shall occur without the payment of dues. Continuing education will also not be required if certain requirements are met (Section 192.360.1).
By January 1, 2014, service as a member of the armed forces, if satisfactory to the licensing board, may be applied towards qualifications to receive a license or certificate from a professional licensing board (Section 324.007.1).
These sections are identical to provisions contained in CCS/SCS/SB 106 (2013).
The act also allows motor vehicle registration applicants to make a one dollar donation, at the time of application, to the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial in Kansas City. Donations shall only be used for the restoration, renovation and maintenance of the National World War I Museum, and the Department of Revenue shall retain no more than one percent for administrative costs (Section 301.020.1).
This section is similar to provisions contained in HCS/SS/SB 252 (2013), SB 397 (2013), and HB 599 (2013).
