HB 443 - This act establishes a two-year pilot project to encourage visitation between parents in prison and their children. The program requires a collaboration between the Department of Corrections and the Children's Division of the Department of Social Services to provide transportation for visits to a parent once a month, with a focus on children who live 50 or more miles away from the prison where their parent is located.
The Corrections Department and the Social Services Department may promulgate rules to implement the program.
The project is to be funded by existing appropriations or moneys appropriated for the project.
The departments of corrections and social services must report to the Governor and General Assembly by February 1, 2017, on the program.
This act is similar to HCS/HB 1220 (2012).
