HCS/HB 1936 - Under current law, with the exception of primary and general elections, when elections have questions and candidates from one or more political subdivisions or special districts and the state, the costs of the election are paid proportionally by the state and the subdivisions or districts. The act removes the exemption for primary elections. This act moves the date of the state primary election from the first Tuesday after the first Monday in August to the first Tuesday after the third Monday in June. Currently, candidate filing for the election is conducted between the last Tuesday in February to the last Tuesday in March. Under the act filing will be conducted between the second Tuesday in January to the first Tuesday in February.
The date of the meetings of each county committee is moved from the third Tuesday of August after each primary election to the first Tuesday immediately following each primary election. The date of the meetings of each congressional district committee is moved from the last Tuesday in August after each primary election to the last Tuesday in June after each primary election. The date of the meetings of each legislative district committee is moved from third Wednesday after the August primary election to the third Wednesday after the June primary election. The date of the meetings of each senatorial district committee is moved from the third Saturday after the August primary election to the third Saturday after each June primary election. The date of the meetings of each judicial district committee is moved from the first Tuesday in September after each primary election to the third Tuesday in July after each primary election.
This act is similar to SB 893 (2014).
