Free Chamber Concerts this Spring Whether in the city, in your neighborhood, in your house of worship or in your college, we hope you’ll join us this spring for free chamber concerts featuring musicians from the St. Louis Symphony. Concerts are casual and last about an hour, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the concert start time, and no tickets or reservations are necessary. March 19, 2014, 7:00pm SYMPHONY IN THE CITY – ON STAGE AT POWELL! Bosnian Journeys: Generations Powell Hall 718 N Grand Blvd Produced in collaboration with the Bosnia Memory Project, this powerful concert weaves personal narrative with Sevdah, the folk music tradition of Bosnia, to tell the stories of our Bosnian neighbors in St. Louis. The concert includes a performance of Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor, a piece played by Vedran Smailovič, “the Cellist of Sarajevo,” at multiple sites of destruction during the siege of Sarajevo to honor those who lost their lives. Featuring musicians from the STL Symphony – Asako Kuboki, Melody Lee, Becky Boyer Hall and Cece Belcher, violins, Christian Woehr and Di Shi, violas, Alvin McCall, cello, Christopher Carson, bass, Thomas Stubbs, percussion, and special appearances by David Halen, Concertmaster and guest Sevdah artist, Amir Salesevic, accordion. Free baklava, Sljivovica plum brandy and Sarajevo Beer at the complimentary post-concert reception in the foyer. Bosnian Journeys: Generations is a MetLife Music Without Boundaries concert with additional support from the Daughters of Charity Foundation of St. Louis. March 23, 2014, 7:30pm SYMPHONY IN YOUR COLLEGE Washington University 560 Music Center University City, MO 63130 Featuring the music of timpanist for the St. Louis Symphony, Shannon Wood, with Erin Schreiber, violin, Christian Woehr, viola, David Kim, cello, Ann Choomack, flute, Allegra Lilly, harp, Tim Zavadil, clarinet, Will James, percussion, and Shannon Wood, solo percussion. Concert includes an improvisatory piece by Beat Therapy, a student ensemble from WUSTL. March 26, 2014, 7pm SYMPHONY IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SymphonyCares -- Creative Music Making Culminating Concert Maryville University Auditorium Town and Country This annual event is a collaboration between the Music Therapy students and faculty of Maryville University, participants from St. Louis Arc, and musicians from the STL Symphony. Participating musicians from the STL Symphony include Mark Sparks, flute, Tim Zavadil, clarinet, Mike Walk, trumpet, Jonathan Reycraft, trombone, and Chris Carson and David DeRiso, double bass. Winners of the Annual Artist Presentation Society Youth Orchestra Competition Powell Hall 718 N Grand Blvd Enjoy performances by two of St. Louis’ most talented young musicians from the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Julia Son, violin, and Eric Cho, cello, are this year’s winners of the annual Artist Presentation Society Youth Orchestra competition. They will perform their winning selections and team up in this Mentors and Protégés concert with some of their music mentors, Hiroko Yoshida, violin, Ken Kulosa, cello, and Vera Parkin, piano, to perform additional chamber selections.
