SB 323 - Under current law, candidates for mayor and city council in third class cities, and candidates for mayor and aldermen in fourth class cities, must be residents of the city and, if applicable, ward in which they are running for office. This act allows nonresidents to be candidates for such offices if they meet the age requirements for office, are United States' citizens, are residents of the county in which the city is located and either own property in the city or ward in which they are seeking election or have had their name submitted via petition. The petition must be signed by at least 10 percent of the city residents who voted in the last municipal election for mayor and must be submitted to the city clerk at least 60 days before the scheduled election.
