SB 839 - This act provides for the certification of euthanasia technicians. A euthanasia technician is certified by the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board to administer controlled substances for the euthanasia of animals under the indirect supervision of a licensed veterinarian. Applicants for certification must complete certain courses and pass an exam as provided by the Board. Prior to receiving certification, applicants must also file with the Board an agreement between the applicant and a licensed veterinarian which expresses the veterinarian's intent to provide indirect supervision over the applicant's euthanasia services. Under the act only licensed veterinarians, certified euthanasia technicians, registered veterinary technicians, provisional licensees, veterinary candidates, veterinary student preceptees, and unregistered assistants may administer controlled substances for the purposes of euthanizing an animal. Certified euthanasia technicians, registered veterinary technicians, and provisional licensees can only preform such services under the indirect supervision of a licensed veterinarian, while veterinary medical candidates, veterinary student preceptees, and unregistered assistants must have immediate supervision by a licensed veterinarian in order to euthanize an animal.
This act is identical to HB 1929 (2016).
