SB 934 - This act requires schools and school districts to provide home school students with the same opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities as students enrolled in public schools. Home school students shall be eligible to participate in activities for the school in whose attendance area the student resides. If such school does not offer a certain activity, a home school student may participate in that activity at another school in the student's district of residence.
Home school students are subject to the same policies as students enrolled in the public school, in addition to the academic and attendance requirements required of students receiving home instruction.
Any student who begins home instruction after the beginning of the school year, and who is ineligible to participate at the time home instruction begins, shall not be eligible to participate until the beginning of the following school year.
No school or school district may impose additional rules or fees on participating home school students that differ or exceed those imposed on other students participating in the same activity.
This act is similar to HB 2802 (2016) and HB 232 (2015), and to a provision contained in HCS/SB 113 (2015).
