SB 1001 - This act prohibits insurers from using certain events for the purposes of increasing premiums, refusing to write or renew polices, or canceling a policy or binder of insurance. These events include an insured's inquiry into the type or level of coverage or an inquiry into whether a policy will cover a loss if the insured files no claim. Insurers are also prohibited from using claims where the insurer conducts no investigation of a claim and does not initiate any other claim activity or makes no payment to or on behalf of the insured and the claims do not involve deceptive practices on the part of the insured. First-party property claims resulting from wind or hail if the insured had no previous wind or hail claim in the last five years, and any first-party claims if the claims are over ten years old are also included in the prohibited events. This act is similar to HB 2387 (2016).
