JEFFERSON CITY — Representative Tom Hurst, Senator Mike Kehoe, and Representative David Wood announced today they will be holding a series of three town hall meetings to discuss the Rock Island Trail. The Rock Island Trail has not received any state funding, nor is it dependent on legislation. These public meetings, designed to ensure citizens know the available facts about this on-going project, will take place in Owensville, Freeburg, and Eldon.
“The Rock Island Trail Project is a significant undertaking. It involves multiple phases and affects property owners and municipalities across Central Missouri,” said Rep. Hurst. “Accordingly, it is appropriate that we have the opportunity to hear and consider input from citizens, as well as provide them an update on what we are hearing in the Capitol about this project.”
“The Rock Island Trail is one of the topics that I get asked about most frequently throughout the district,” Rep. Wood said. “We will invite the director of Missouri State Parks, Mr. Bill Bryan, to attend and answer questions. Bill has been straight-forward, direct, and helpful with us, and I am confident that he and his staff will be at these meetings as well.”
“Even though the Rock Island Trail is a private project that does not require legislation or use state money, it is a project that has many people very interested and it is a project that gets discussion in the capitol. These meetings are an opportunity for us to let people know about the conversations taking place in the capitol and to help answer questions about the project,” said Sen. Kehoe. “I am grateful that Representatives Hurst and Wood have agreed to host these meetings.”
