JEFFERSON CITY — On Thursday, Oct. 27, State Sen. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, will participate in Read for the Record, a national campaign hosted by Jumpstart to address the importance of reading and early childhood education. Sen. Pearce will read to preschool, kindergarten and first and second grade classes at both Glasgow Elementary in Howard County and Hardeman R-X Elementary in Saline County.

This will be the senator’s fourth consecutive year of participation. The featured book for 2016 is “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich,” written and illustrated by Julia Sarcone-Roach. After this year, Sen. Pearce will have read to schoolchildren in all eight counties of the 21st Senate District.

Since 2006, more than 17 million children and adults across the globe have participated in Read for the Record. It is the largest shared reading experience — Jumpstart actually broke the world reading record in 2013 when 2,462,860 children and adults participated in the 24-hour celebration.
