Jefferson City — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, will be joined by Lezley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown, to testify in support of Senate Bill 628, which would require law enforcement agencies in certain cities to require their officers to wear a camera while on duty and record all contacts with citizens.
More than 50 of Ms. McSpadden’s supporters will join her and Sen. Nasheed to lobby fellow legislators on behalf of the bill.
Senate Bill 628 will be heard at 8:15 a.m., tomorrow, Feb. 17, by the Senate Transportation, Public Safety, and Infrastructure Committee in Senate Committee Room 1, in the Missouri Capitol. This legislation would require law enforcement officers in cities with populations of more than 100,000 people to wear a body-worn camera at all times while on duty and in uniform. The bill would make it mandatory for officers to activate the camera to record, from beginning to end, all contacts with people in the performance of their official duties.
