JEFFERSON CITY—Senator Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, today denounced the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) recent announcement of the creation of a national agricultural advisory council. Senator Parson called the council a sham committee created by an organization that has made concerted efforts to harm agriculture in Missouri and other states.
Senator Parson described the move as yet another attempt by the group to foster misinformation in the minds of citizens in a blatant attempt to reach its ultimate goal: the destruction of modern agriculture as a thriving industry in America.
“I hope the people of Missouri can see through this deception for what it is: a publicity ploy that distracts citizens from the HSUS’ true goal of harming our state’s No. 1 industry,” said Sen. Parson. “I will do everything in my power to expose its true agenda, which has had disastrous effects on farming communities in other states.”
The HSUS announced the formation of the national advisory council in Lincoln, Neb., on Monday, May 9. Almost immediately, ranchers, farmers and others in the agricultural community decried the move as disingenuous.
“This is an organization with a history of spreading false information in order to prey on the sympathies of voters,” said Sen. Parson. “This is the same group that helped pass the resolution in California that is devastating the egg industry; the same group that almost put responsible dog-breeders out of business in this state a handful of years ago. People need to understand the HSUS’ true motivations, which never align with agricultural values, something we hold dear in this state. The formation of this council is political theater, nothing more. This is the exact reason why we had to put Right to Farm in the Constitution. Shame on them for once again misinforming citizens as to their true agenda. ”
