Senator Jeanie Riddle – Capitol Report for the Week of Jan. 4, 2016

Riddle - Banner - Column - 010715

The second Regular Session of the 98th Missouri General Assembly began this Wednesday at noon. Having now completed my first Regular Session in the Senate, I look forward to representing my constituents in Senatorial District 10 for another successful term. By working with my fellow Senate and House members and serving with incredible integrity and open communication, I expect tangible solutions to happen on the floor this spring.

During the first two days of session, my fellow lawmakers and I began introducing the most important issues facing our state in order to best address them in the months to come. Some of the focuses for the Senate this coming session include passing legislation that creates job growth and strengthens our communities statewide. More specifically, we want to achieve these goals by improving the Missouri transportation system, advancing the ethical standards for state legislators and better coordinating with our fellow legislators to ensure an efficient and effective legislative process during the session and in the future.

Sen. Riddle presides over the Senate on the second day of the Regular Session, Jan, 7, 2016.

Personally, I am excited to sponsor legislation that would strengthen our state’s education system by creating the “Missouri Civics Education Initiative,” which would require high school students to better understand important civics and history information prior to graduation. Additionally, I filed a bill in December to ease the ability of political subdivisions to assign operations of retirement plans to the Missouri Local Government Employees’ Retirement System. While this is just a sampling of the legislation I will be filing this session, please continue to contact my office if there are issues you are facing that deserve my attention.

It is an honor to be your State Senator, and my door is always open to your concerns, questions or comments. Please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-2757, or visit my web page at www.senate.mo.gov/riddle.
