Jefferson City — State Sen. Wayne Wallingford, R-Cape Girardeau, today praised the announcement of the Missouri Division of Tourism’s matching funds awards for countywide tourism marketing initiatives in the 27th Senatorial District. The matching funding will be awarded for fiscal year 2017 as a part of the Division’s “Promote Missouri Fund Program,” on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
“Tourism is a vital part of our state economy, as every year we welcome more than 40 million visitors to Missouri, which in turn creates almost 300,000 jobs for residents of the state,” Senator Wallingford said. “The Division of Tourism’s matching funds will allow our tourism industry to continue growing its already prosperous footprint across the state.”
Marketing initiatives in the 27th District set to receive matching funding awards, and the corresponding funding amounts are as follows:
- $32,000 for the “Destination Cape Girardeau – You’ve Arrived!” Campaign
- $20,000 for the Scott County Leisure Travel marketing campaign
- $4,500 for website development surrounding Perry County Heritage tourism
The matching funds may be used for media advertising as well as for investments in approved tourism marketing platforms, which are designed to attract visitors and increase visitor spending. Promoting Missouri tourism is a vital part of growing the prosperous travel market already established within the state. By attracting more visitors to the Show Me State, Missouri businesses can earn more money, hire more employees and support more local economies.
