According to AAA, 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving. I suspect you may be one of them. Whether you are traveling or hosting family and friends, on behalf of my entire family, I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving. Safe travels.
Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to show appreciation for all things seen and unseen. From a random act of kindness to our brave men and women who serve our country around the world, we truly have a great deal for which to be thankful.
At the Capitol office, John Shelby joins the team as legislative aide. John has an extensive communications background. His journalism career has taken him all over this great country of ours. John is a native Missourian. He expects to graduate with a master’s degree in communications management this May.
On a personal note, I am extremely grateful to represent the people of Missouri’s 8th Senatorial District. Please feel free to contact the Capitol office anytime. We always look forward to hearing your comments, suggestions and questions.

“It is not the qualified voters, but the qualified voters who choose to vote, that constitute the political power.” –Abraham Lincoln
President Lincoln is referring to participation and engagement in our political process. Many of us did just that earlier this month on Election Day. District 8 Day 2017 presents another firsthand opportunity for you to engage with your state government.
My staff and I look forward to hosting this event every year. District 8 residents will experience Missouri’s governmental bodies through tours of the Governor’s Mansion, Capitol Building and Supreme Court. Attendees spend time with me on the floor of the Senate Chamber to learn more about the legislative process. I encourage questions. This is an excellent opportunity to witness our state government in action.
District 8 Day 2017 is March 14 or 15. If you would like to register for this event, or for more information, please contact my office at (573) 751-1464 or via email at Will.Kraus@Senate.Mo.Gov. The registration deadline is March 1, 2017. For those who register, we will send out a detailed itinerary one week before the event.
Some of the tour groups are limited in size, so we encourage you to register for District 8 Day 2017 early to ensure a spot on all of the facility tours. Please be aware this event includes significant amounts of walking, and note any accessibility needs in your registration.
We look forward to seeing you at District 8 Day 2017!
