CHIEF OF STAFF


The Missouri Senate has a Chief of Staff position for a State Senator. This is an advanced professional position providing the Senator with comprehensive legislative support.

The Chief of Staff position is responsible for reviewing and summarizing legislation, providing daily reports on legislative activity, assisting with public policy formation and drafting legislation. This position will also aid in creating and maintaining floor calendars, creating files and databases on a variety of legislative topics.

Successful candidates must have an advanced knowledge of public policy and the legislative process, the ability to multitask effectively in a fast paced work environment and the ability to interact with members of the General Assembly on a variety of legislative and procedural issues. The position also requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, work with sensitive issues, and maintain a professional standard of confidentiality.

A bachelor’s degree in political science, business, social science, or public administration required. A law degree from an accredited school of law and membership in good standing with the Missouri Bar preferred. Years of related work experience may be considered for the required educational requirement.

LEGISLATIVE ANALYST / STAFF ATTORNEY

Division of Research is seeking an analyst/staff attorney in a nonpartisan, fast-paced, multi-faceted legislative environment. The successful applicant will draft legislation, staff committees of the Senate, prepare legal opinions, analyze legislative proposals, and develop policy alternatives. Position requires excellent writing and oral communication skills. Experience in legal or legislative field important. Law degree or advanced degree in Public Administration, Political Science or a related field required. Salary begins at $50,000, commensurate with experience.

LEGISLATIVE ASSISTANT


State Senator Bob Onder is accepting resumes for a Legislative Assistant position. This is a highly responsible professional administrative support position in the office of a state Senator. Duties may include conducting research, preparing statistical reports, handling information requests, and performing clerical functions such as preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, arranging conference calls, and scheduling meetings.

This position requires excellent written and communication skills, organizational skills and the ability to operate a personal computer with general proficiency in word processing, spread sheet, database and/or presentation software.

LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & ABILITIES

Graduation with an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited program

Working knowledge of legal databases and other electronic resources

Knowledge of the legislative process preferred

Supervisory/management experience

Excellent customer service/interpersonal skills

Must be able to work collaboratively as well as independently

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES

Maintains communication & relationships with House & Senate Staff

Provide reference services to the general assembly members and their staff, other state government entities, and the general public

Track expenditures for the library

Acquires and maintains collection of legislative documents, state documents, reports, monographs and publications for use by the general assembly, staff, and public.

Maintain database of current and former members of the Missouri general assembly

LEGISLATIVE CLERK

DEFINITION:

This position provides coverage for the Journal Production and Enrolling and Engrossing units within the Secretary of Senate’s Office. This work is of moderate difficulty and complexity involving a variety of tasks both clerical and technical requiring independent work decisions within established policies and time frames.  Primary responsibility during session is the preparation of the daily journal for publication as well as proofreading of senate bills, resolutions and amendments.

Works under the general supervision of the Secretary of Senate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typesets and edits copy of the daily journal for printing

Responsible for coding and proofing senate bills, resolutions, and amendments

Assists in the proofing of senate journals

Designs and performs layout work of letterhead, notepads, business cards and other publications as needed

Assists with mass mailings and other printing tasks as needed

Perform other related work as required

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Ability to work in a professional setting under pressure of frequent deadlines with long hours

Ability to manage time effectively and meet established time schedules

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Knowledge of the legislative process preferred but not required
