Back to the Capitol for Missouri Legislators
I hope everyone has had a great holiday season. With the new year, however, comes a new Legislative session. This week, lawmakers descended on the Capitol to begin considering more than 250 pieces of legislation already filed in the Senate alone. The building is alive with visitors, constituents, guests, students and yes, lobbyists. I always look forward to the legislative session, as we deliberate on issues to help make Missouri a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Committee assignments have been delivered this week, so the following weeks will include many committee hearings, with citizens, groups, state departments and organizations sharing their opinions about the new bills, and the committee members voting on whether they should move on to the full Senate for debate.
This year’s lineup in the Senate also includes five new members, bringing fresh ideas and issues with them to the table. I look forward to working with them, as well as my other colleagues in the Senate.
Education, agriculture, tax reform, job creation and health care are the main topics of consideration for a great number of legislative measures. This year, bills have also been filed pertaining to lobbying, prevailing wage, income taxes, and many other topics of concern for Missouri citizens.
