State Sen. Paul Wieland, R-Imperial, has introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 10. This resolution urges the City of St. Louis Board of Alderman to defeat Board Bill 203 and protect the religious liberty and right to conscience for Missouri citizens.
Board Bill 203 was voted out of committee this week and is awaiting approval by the full Board of Alderman. As currently written, this bill tramples the rights of St. Louis business owners by making St. Louis a “sanctuary city” for abortions by deeming pregnancy and reproductive health services as protected classes. Board Bill 203 would allow the City of St. Louis to fine or imprison property owners and Missouri citizens who choose not to be associated with the abortion industry as a result of their religious beliefs. Fines placed could amount to $500 and the potential of imprisonment for up to 90 days.
Board Bill 203 violates religious liberty and individual rights to conscience. It is a grave abuse of local authority and threatens constitutional liberties of the residents.
“It should be the moral imperative of all government bodies to respect and protect life at all of its stages,” said Senator Wieland. “I have and will be at the forefront of the fight for religious liberty just like the Obamacare mandate that my family fought against and defeated in federal courts. We, alongside other people of faith, will fight and defeat this atrocious bill.”
Senate Concurrent Resolution 10 is currently being referred to the Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions, and Ethics committee.
