This week’s floor action included debating issues regarding Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) and more. Debate lasted thought he night as lawmakers worked to reach a compromise on key issues.
On Tuesday, House Bill 130, bipartisan legislation created to regulate Transportation Network Companies – or TNC’s – was passed and is now headed to the governor’s desk.
The measure sets guidelines and standards for ride sharing organizations such as Uber and Lyft, which hire independent contractors to supply their service. Among other things, the bill establishes a permitting process for TNC’s, and requires transparency of time and distance rates being charged to riders.
This week a historic event occurred in the Missouri Capitol. On Tuesday, a Senate Memorial Service was held to honor 13 former Missouri State Senators who have died in the last two years. More than 45 former Senators joined with current Senators and family members of the honorees for the occasion.
Statewide elected officials – both current and former – were in attendance or took part in the event itself. Over the last two years – since the last memorial service – 13 Senators have died. Each of them were honored with a brief remembrance and then a presentation of a rose and lighting of a candle during a roll call ceremony. It was an honor to be in attendance.
