JEFFERSON CITY—Today, President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin, announced committee appointments for standing Senate committees. Among those named to chair positions is Sen. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, who was appointed as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources.

“As agriculture is the state’s number one industry, I am honored to be appointed Vice Chair of the Agriculture Committee, particularly as a freshman senator,” said Sen. Hoskins. “I’m excited to work on shaping policy that will protect and promote the agriculture community throughout Missouri, and especially in the 21st Senate District, which by virtue of being so largely rural will be positively impacted by the important work carried out by this committee.”

Sen. Hoskins has previously been named a Farm Bureau’s Friend of Agriculture and worked as a farmhand while attending college.

Sen. Hoskins was also appointed to the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senate Economic Development Committee, Senate Insurance and Banking Committee, and the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.

“I’m especially interested in the work we’ll be doing in the Appropriations and Veterans Committees,” Sen. Hoskins said. “As the only certified public accountant in the general assembly, I look forward to putting that experience to work for Missouri taxpayers. It is important that someone with my expertise works with the appropriations committee, and I believe it will allow me to dive right in and get started.”

Sen. Hoskins is a veteran of the Missouri National Guard and served in President Harry Truman’s artillery battery in Independence, Missouri. He has previously served on the Missouri Veterans Commission and is passionate about veteran’s causes. The 21st Senate district is home to Whiteman Air Force Base, Higginsville Veterans Cemetery and the Warrensburg Veterans Home.

“As a veteran I know the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make to protect us and our freedoms,” said Sen. Hoskins. “They’ve taken care of us, now it is our job to make sure we take care of them. The 21st Senate district is home to one of the largest military and veteran communities in the state and I look forward to serving my constituents on this committee.”
