JEFFERSON CITY — Today, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency West Campus Headquarters (NGA West) announced the location for their new facility will be in North St. Louis. The decision comes after months of work and research to determine where the best site was for the new, state-of-the-art complex. The General Assembly, as a whole, supported the North St. Louis location as being the best suited for the facility.

“The announcement today ensures the continued economic and job growth of the St. Louis region for years to come,” Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis said. Senator Keaveny has worked closely with the city and NGA to prove the city’s dedication and need for the facility. “This announcement comes after nearly a year of hard work from many dedicated people.”

This is a proud first step of many in a new chapter with NGA and the City of St. Louis.  Federal, state and local partners are all committed to NGA and will work closely with them and the Corps of Engineers to ensure NGA’s new campus is delivered on schedule and meeting or exceeding all requirements.

Four sites were considered and from the start elected leaders agreed to, and put all their support behind, the North St. Louis site. Due to aging buildings, limited room for expansion and increasing security concerns, NGA, now located in the southern area of St. Louis, began searching for a new location in the region for facilities.

The NGA is the nation’s primary source of geospatial intelligence for the Department of Defense and the U.S. Intelligence Community. It provides support to U.S. national security and defense as well as disaster relief. It will provide 3,100 jobs with an average salary of $83,000 a year, and annual earnings tax revenue for the city of an estimated $2.4 million per year. During construction, there are expected to be as many as 5,200 construction jobs available. The short-term and long-term economic development potential of this project will leave a positive impact for years and generations to come.
