JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, today issued the following statement relating to Senate Bill 656:
“In order to dispel the grossly exaggerated and downright deceitful misinformation circulating about the immediate and future effects of Senate Bill 656, I have put together a summary of what has, and will become law.
The intent of this bill is to improve the ability of law-abiding gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment rights as they see fit. In no way will this law eliminate or restrict the current Right to Carry process that has been in effect since 2003.
Certain locations can still prohibit permit holders from carrying within their facilities. In addition, as current law is in place, permit holders may carry openly in local communities that have prohibited open carry.
Most importantly, there is nothing in Senate Bill 656 that makes it legal for a convicted felon to legally obtain or carry a firearm.
