Statement from Sen. Jamilah Nasheed Regarding AG’s Annual Report
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, today issued the following statement relating to the Attorney General’s 2016 Annual Report of Missouri Vehicle Stops:
“I am glad the attorney general instructed our law enforcement agencies to report information that can be important in determining whether our laws are being fairly and properly enforced. With information under the new directives — recording whether a person stopped lives in a particular area — the state and citizens would have more data to conclude whether unreasonable factors play a role in stopping a driver.
“Racial profiling deserves no place in deciding whether to pull people over. Indeed, the concern about racial profiling is one of the reasons we include race in this annual report. Today’s action by the attorney general is a step in the direction of bringing more attention to the issue of racial profiling.”
The attorney general announced today new measures to add to the annual report. More information can be found here.
