Statement from Sen. Caleb Rowden Regarding Missouri’s Alignment with Federal Tax Cut
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – After assessing the fiscal impact of the federal tax cut with state budget writers, Sen. Caleb Rowden, R-Columbia, is calling on fellow lawmakers to keep Missouri’s standard deduction tied to the new federal tax code.
Rowden notes that some legislative proposals to decouple the state deduction from the federal tax code would cancel out the benefits of tax relief for middle class families.
“After evaluating the impact on our state’s bottom line, I am calling on my fellow lawmakers to allow working Missourians to enjoy the full benefits of the federal tax cut. The standard individual or married deduction has rarely been increased while inflation and the cost of raising children have increased dramatically. Congress has taken a small but important step by increasing one of the few deductions the average person can use, and some politicians are already looking for ways to divert it away from working families. We should not allow them to be successful.”
Senator Caleb Rowden represents the 19th Senate District; Boone and Cooper counties.
