Feb. 9, 2018 Senator Caleb Rowden’s Column for the Week of Feb. 5, 2018One of the privileges of serving as a senator is interacting with the citizens of the 19th Senatorial District. This week was especially exciting at the Capitol as several individuals and groups visited to receive numerous awards and distinctions.
The National FFA Organization, state associations, local FFA chapters, sponsors, volunteers, and other stakeholders continue to help the next generation rise up to meet the challenges of feeding a growing population by helping FFA members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests through a broad range of career pathways through their experiences in agricultural education. This week, I had the opportunity to meet Aaron Mott from Rocheport and Justin Below from Hartsburg, who are both currently serving as Vice Presidents for the Missouri FFA Association. National History Day in Missouri is the state affiliate of National History Day, an innovative educational program where students conduct extensive research on historical subjects and present their findings. More than 3,000 students participate in local and regional competitions each year and the two top winners in each category have the opportunity to serve as Missouri delegates to the national contest in Washington, D.C. I was honored to meet Abigail Mayhan, Shruti Guatam and Gianna Durante. These three outstanding students earned placement as top medalists in their individual categories. I am here to serve you, and my office door is always open to your questions, concerns and suggestions.
