Senator Bill Eigel Encourages Local Businesses to Participate in Buy Missouri Week

Eigel-press release (2)

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Bill Eigel, R-Weldon Spring, would like to encourage local businesses in the 23rd Senatorial District to participate in the first annual Buy Missouri Week, which officially began on Saturday, Oct. 13.

During the 2018 legislative session, the Missouri General Assembly approved Senate Bill 891, which was signed into law by the governor over the summer. The bill declares the week beginning with the second Saturday in October of each year Buy Missouri Week, a time when Missourians are encouraged to support our state’s thriving business community.

The Buy Missouri program is an effort to promote businesses that manufacture a majority of their products in our state. The program is open to any business that is in good standing with the state, is able to provide a Missouri Tax ID number and manufactures at least 51 percent of its products in Missouri.

If a business fulfills these requirements, it is eligible to be listed in the Buy Missouri Business Directory, which maps every participating business in the Show-Me State. The directory creates an easy-to-use database for consumers interested in supporting in-state businesses.

“I believe in the power of market capitalism to create jobs and drive economic development,” Sen. Eigel said. “Buy Missouri is an important initiative that I believe will boost businesses that prioritize Missouri consumers. I applaud the General Assembly and the offices of governor and lieutenant governor for their leadership on this exciting program.”
