With the signing of HB 1490 into law, the effort is now underway to find nominees for the appointed positions in workgroups which will create the new Missouri Learning Standards. The President Pro Tempore will appoint 32 people to the workgroups. Of the 32 members, 16 will be parents and 16 will be education professionals. Appointees will fill a total of eight workgroups; with workgroups for English, Science, Math and Social Studies for grades K-5 and workgroups for English, Science, Math and Social Studies for grades 6-12. Appointees may serve on more than one workgroup. In order to be considered an education professional, the appointee must be a Missouri resident for at least three years and have taught in the workgroup’s subject area for at least ten years or have ten years of experience in that subject area.
