JEFFERSON CITY – For several days last week, members of the Kenyan National Parliament (Parliamentary Service Commission) visited the Missouri State Capitol, visiting members and staff in both the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives.
The delegation attended informational sessions, where they learned about the operating structure and legislative functions of both legislative chambers. Members were also able to meet with lawmakers one-on-one and were introduced in both chambers.
The group made the 17-hour flight to learn about Missouri’s state government. Members of the delegation were hoping to learn Missouri’s legislative process as well as the legislature’s rules, laws and day-to-day operations.
Members of the Kenyan National Parliament were studying and seeking information about how each chamber, works separately and together. In addition, they were also working to learn more about the rules and regulations that guide each chamber through the legislative process.
Four members of the Parliamentary Service Commission made the trip to Missouri, including Vice-Chair, Hon. Dr. Naomi Shabaan; Sen. George Khaniri; Sen. Aaron Cheruyiot and Dr. Lonah Mumelo. They were accompanied by Michael Sialai, clerk of the National Assembly; Anthony Njoroge, director of Litigation and Compliance Services; Noor Ghalgan, principal clerk assistant I, PSC Secretariat; Osborn Obayo, clerk assistant I, PSC Secretariat; and Gertrude Nangira, personal assistant to the vice-chair.
The group ended their time in Jefferson City with a tour of the historic Missouri State Capitol Building.
