Senator Jamilah Nasheed Calls for Indictment Following Attorney General’s Press Conference
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, announced she is calling on the St. Louis circuit attorney to file charges against the governor following the statements made by the Missouri attorney general on Tuesday.
The attorney general announced that his office had discovered possible wrongdoing by the governor relating to a charity he founded and a list of the charity’s donors. The attorney general alleges the governor took the donor list and used it without the charity’s permission. The attorney general has since turned over all evidence to the St. Louis circuit attorney, who would have jurisdiction since the alleged wrongdoing was committed in St. Louis.
“I believe this is a serious allegation and one that does not come from the attorney general lightly. I am glad that the evidence has been promptly turned over to the St. Louis circuit attorney for further review,” said Sen. Nasheed. “Ultimately, I believe she should move forward with filing new charges against the governor. After all, we take our campaign laws seriously in this state and no one is above the law. I believe responsible parties should be held accountable and an indictment is the first step in that process.”
