Senator Munzlinger Awarded for Helping Missouri Veterans

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, has received the American Legion Legislative Award, in appreciation for his untiring and concentrated efforts in sponsoring and supporting legislation beneficial to the veterans of Missouri.

“I would like to thank the American Legion for this honor,” Sen. Munzlinger said. “I am proud of the hard work of the Missouri General Assembly this year. It is a small thing we can do, by protecting and providing for our veterans, military personnel and their families for all they have done in protecting us and our freedoms, in passing some very beneficial legislation for our veterans and their families.”

Some of this year’s legislation for Missouri veterans included:

• Senate Bill 498, which prohibits cities from restricting veterans organizations from operating re-sale shops in certain areas;
• House Bill 1680, which adds spouses of active duty United States military personnel to those eligible to receive its services and changes the name of the Heroes at Home Program to the Show-Me Heroes Program;
• House Bill 1731, which changes the laws regarding the use of gaming and tobacco settlement money; and
• House Concurrent Resolution 22, which encourages the Missouri Veterans Commission to work with the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs to address the needs of women veterans and formally honors the heroic service of women veterans.
