The act provides that a person must be 21 years of age or older in order to be elected to the following offices:

• Clerk of the county commission;

• County auditor in certain counties;

• Coroner;

• Surveyor;

• Director of a seven-director school district;

• Director of an ambulance district;

• Trustee of a reorganized sewer district;

• Member of a public water supply district;

• Trustee in a sewer district;

• Director of a fire protection district;

• Clerk of court.

The act also provides that no person shall be appointed to an elected public office if such person is delinquent in the payment of state income taxes or any property taxes, real or personal. Persons to be considered by an appointing authority for such position shall provide the authority with a signed and notarized affidavit stating that all the aforementioned taxes have been paid or that no taxes were owed during the previous two fiscal years.

The act requires an election authority to require proof that any candidate for an elective public office within a city, town, village, or township is not delinquent in the payment of state income taxes or any property taxes, real or personal. Candidates for such offices shall provide the authority with a signed and notarized affidavit stating that all the aforementioned taxes have been paid or that no taxes were owed during the previous two fiscal years.

Current law requires any candidate for a county office to pay to the county central committee a filing fee in the amount of $50. This act decreases that fee to $25.
