Statement from Sen. Dave Schatz Regarding NCAA Penalties Against Mizzou
JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz, R-Sullivan, issued the following statement regarding the penalties delivered by the NCAA against the University of Missouri-Columbia.
“At a time when so many institutional bodies face questions about transparency and accountability, I find it especially egregious that the NCAA would punish the University of Missouri for its honest, swift and cooperative action to correct a problem. The NCAA’s decision unfairly punishes student athletes who had no involvement whatsoever and, worse, will absolutely have a chilling effect on schools that would work in good faith to address issues surrounding academic integrity. I stand with Mizzou, state and federal civic leaders and the SEC Commissioner in calling for the NCAA to reconsider this absurd course of action.”
