After a week away from Jefferson City, we returned to work at the State Capitol. The second half of session moves very quickly, as we work toward our May 17 deadline.
This week, Senate Bill 54 was passed and sent to the Missouri House of Representatives for its consideration. Two years ago, we passed a bill that set a cap on the rate of interest an insurance company had to pay if the state found an error. This bill includes a cap on the rate in situations where the insurance company finds and self-reports their error.
Also, Senate Bill 264 was approved and sent to the Missouri House. This measure would transfer the Missouri Arts Council from the Missouri Department of Economic Development to the lieutenant governor’s office.
With only seven weeks left in session, time becomes very important to all of us in the Missouri General Assembly. In addition to remaining committee hearings and work on the Missouri Senate floor, our only constitutional requirement is coming due. By law, we must have the state operating budget for Fiscal Year 2020 delivered to the governor no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10. The 2019 legislative session will end one week later.
