Monday, April 8, marked Lineworker Appreciation Day in the State Capitol. Several lineworkers visited with their state legislators to discuss issues that are important to them. It was also an opportunity to recognize them and thank them for the hard work they do every day for our communities. When you lose power, our state’s lineworkers rush to the scene and diligently work to restore power to your home. Often, they are sent to other states to help when hurricanes and tornadoes devastate an area. I want to thank all lineworkers in our state for their hard work and dedication to serving our communities.
On Wednesday, April 10, several constituents met with my office during the American Cancer Society’s Lobby Day. Members of this organization came to the Capitol to advocate for the importance of making cancer issues a state priority. It is important to me to discuss these important issues and examine ways in which I can assist my constituents in the Legislature.
Members of the Missouri Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs also visited my office on Wednesday. The Boys and Girls Club is an incredible organization, and I fully support them and the incredible work they are doing in our communities. The leaders of the Boys and Girls Clubs and their students are passionate about issues that are important to them, and it is important to me that I understand any concerns they have with their state government.
This week, the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee discussed several appointments to various boards and commissions across the state. I want to congratulate Victor Pasley on his appointment to the Lincoln University Board of Curators. Mr. Pasley is an excellent candidate for this position, and I wish him the best of luck as he begins his term.
On Thursday, April 11, the Senate discussed Senate Concurrent Resolution 14, which would allow the state to issue bonds to pay for the replacement of several of our state’s aging bridges. This proposal provides funding for the construction and repair of 250 bridges in our state. As some of you may know, the Interstate 70 bridge at Rocheport is in serious need of repair. This is a busy stretch of Interstate 70 through our community, and I believe this bonding proposal provides an avenue to replace this bridge and numerous other pieces of our state’s infrastructure network of roads and bridges. This legislation has been referred to the Senate Fiscal Oversight Committee, and it must be approved by the members of that committee before the Senate can vote to pass the proposal. Improving our state’s infrastructure is one of the governor’s top priorities, so I am hopeful that SCR 14 will pass through the Missouri Senate and head to the Missouri House of Representatives for consideration.
