Sen. Lauren Arthur Announces Local Boards and Commissions Initiative

Jefferson City – State Sen. Lauren Arthur, D-Kansas City, has announced the rollout of a local Boards and Commissions Initiative. This plan aims to match constituents who are interested in serving on Missouri boards and commissions that have seats reserved for public participation.

“Civic engagement is the lifeblood of democracy. It’s our fundamental right and responsibility as citizens to get involved,” said Sen. Arthur. “Missouri has more than 200 boards and commissions. Clay County has a deep pool of talented, knowledgeable and dedicated people who can make a difference, and this initiative will assist in making every effort to connect them.”

The Boards and Commissions Initiative will help develop leaders and ensure that the people of the 17th Senatorial District are well-represented in these decision-making bodies. Participants are able to pair their interests, skills and expertise with related state boards and commissions, ranging from areas in agriculture to judiciary matters to education. It also seeks to make the appointment process easier to navigate.

By accessing a simple form on Sen. Arthur’s official website, an interested person may submit his or her resume and other background information. Senator Arthur’s office will collaborate with the governor’s office to identify opportunities.

Individuals can begin the simple process by going to Sen. Arthur’s website at www.senate.mo.gov/arthur or by calling her office at (573) 751.5282.
