On Monday, Feb. 25, Pattie Parris was introduced to the Missouri Senate as the first female doorkeeper in the history of the Missouri Senate. Ms. Parris has witnessed countless historical events in the Missouri General Assembly during her service to our state. She has served with numerous legislators throughout her career, including Margaret Kelly, the first female auditor in Missouri’s history; Catherine Hanaway, the first female speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives; and Ron Richard, the first member of the General Assembly to serve as speaker of the Missouri House and president pro tem of the Missouri Senate. Now, Ms. Parris is making her own history as she begins her service as the first female doorkeeper in the history of the Missouri General Assembly. I would like to congratulate Ms. Parris on this achievement.
This week, I had the opportunity to speak to students from the Boonville TAG (Talented and Gifted) program. These students have exhibited an exceptional learning potential, and this program provides them with educational opportunities that develop creativity and further their intellectual abilities. I enjoyed speaking to these students about the legislative process and how their state government functions. These students are the future of Missouri, and I felt privileged to meet them and provide them with a positive experience at the State Capitol.
