Sen. Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of Feb. 18

The number of bills receiving committee hearings in the Missouri Senate is growing. During this past week, several of my measures received committee hearings.

Senate Bill 174 seeks to clarify how banks pay taxes on interest earned on deposits held at Federal Reserve banks. The Missouri Senate Ways and Means Committee heard my proposal on Tuesday.

The Ways and Means Committee also heard Senate Bill 175 on Tuesday. This measure would modify a tax credit for certain financial institutions.

On Wednesday, the Missouri Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee took testimony on Senate Bill 166, which says certain records that contain public safety risks submitted to the Missouri Public Service Commission could not be open to the public.

In addition, Senate Bill 189 was heard by the Missouri Senate Local Government and Elections Committee on Wednesday. This measure would modify several provisions relating to use taxes.

Also this week, the Missouri 4-H held its annual legislative academy in Jefferson City. It is always great to see these young men and women when they come to the Capitol every year. The organization chooses delegates who then approach all three branches of government to make their case for the future of agriculture. Some of these young men and women also get the opportunity to serve as job shadows for a day for either statewide or other elected officials in Jefferson City. Logan Phillips from Lebanon attended the academy and was my job shadow. I am so glad they get this opportunity. It is something they will remember forever, and so will I.

I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
