JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Lincoln Hough, R-Springfield, is praising his colleagues for passing Senate Bill 68. The legislation is intended to spur advanced career training across Missouri and aid General Motors in upgrading its manufacturing plant near St. Louis.
“Senate Bill 68 is a comprehensive package of economic development tools meant to move Missouri to the top of the pack and send a clear signal to the rest of the country that we want to aggressively cultivate and expand our state’s workforce,” Sen. Hough said. “This bill will help propel Missourians into better economic opportunities that will allow them to make a better living and support their families. Missourians have amazing potential, and this bill will help open the door to those opportunities. I am excited that the Missouri House of Representatives worked with the governor and businesses from across the state to formulate a plan for growth and economic vitality for the next generation of Missouri workers. Senate Bill 68 is about showing businesses across the country that Missouri is not only open for business, but that we look forward to partnering with companies that make investments in our communities, our working families and the future of innovation.”
Senate Bill 68 also creates the “Fast-Track Workforce Incentive Grant” to provide grants for Missouri citizens to attend an approved Missouri college of their choice for advanced career training. In addition, it changes the Missouri Works Training Program to the Missouri One Start Program, which has stronger guidelines for training Missouri’s next generation of employees, and additional incentives to business owners for expansion.
Once signed by the governor, the law will take effect on Aug. 28.
