Senator Justin Brown takes oath of office
JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri State Sen. Justin Brown, R-Rolla, took the oath of office Jan. 9, during the opening session of Missouri’s 100th General Assembly at the State Capitol in Jefferson City. Senator Brown represents Missouri’s 16th Senatorial District, which includes Camden, Crawford, Dent, Phelps and Pulaski counties.
“I am grateful for the trust the citizens of the 16th District have placed in me. It is a great honor to join my colleagues in the Missouri Senate,” said Sen. Brown. “I’m excited to be here and ready to get started representing the folks back home. I came here to work for them, and I intend to make sure their voices are heard in Jefferson City.”
Senator Brown is one of nine new members of the 34-member Missouri chamber and will serve a four-year term of office. The First Regular Session of the 100th General Assembly will continue through May 17.
Among measures the Missouri Senate will consider this term are two bills pre-filed by Sen. Brown. Senate Bill 71 modifies provisions relating to worker’s compensation premiums. Senate Bill 223 would modify the criminal charge of murder in the second degree to include deaths that result from the manufacture, delivery or distribution of Schedule I and II controlled substance.
A Phelps County native, Sen. Brown is a farmer, cattle rancher and former commercial loan officer. He was elected to office in November and succeeds his father, Sen. Dan Brown.
