JEFFERSON CITY – State Sen. Brian Williams, D-University City, will serve as a member of the following Senate committees for the 2019 legislative session: Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment; Government Reform; Gubernatorial Appointments; Progress and Development; Small Business and Industry; and Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety.
“It is an honor to serve on these committees,” Sen. Williams said. “I am eager to hear testimony on bills as they enter this stage of the legislative process, and I look forward to the thoughtful and earnest discussion with my fellow committee members.”
During committee hearings, lawmakers discuss and debate the merits of legislation assigned to committees. The senator who sponsors the bill introduces it to the committee, and members of the public are given the opportunity to present testimony in favor or in opposition to the bill.
While Sen. Williams hasn’t sponsored any bills for the 2019 legislative session, he has co-sponsored Senate Bill 299. This proposal extends the deadline to pay tax liabilities from April 15, 2019 to June 15, 2019, if the outstanding tax liability is less than $200. The bill also allows those taxpayers to enter into a payment plan of up to four months in order to pay their state tax bill.
