Senator Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of Jan. 14

This has been a busy week for us here at the Capitol. We received our committee assignments for this and next year. I am honored to be a part of these committees for the first half of the 100th General Assembly:

We have quite a number of bills to hear, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on meaningful legislation this session.

We also heard the governor’s vision for the next fiscal year. He delivered his annual budget address to lawmakers, which is better known as the State of the State address. He laid out his goals for Missouri. Since he knows how our part of the state thinks, it is very easy to agree with a lot of what he had to say. There will be changes made to his plan between now and early May, when we will have a balanced budget ready for his consideration. Missouri’s next fiscal year will start on July 1, 2019.

The governor also touched on the importance of simplifying state government during his speech. Along these same lines, I introduced Senate Bill 264 on the Missouri Senate floor on Wednesday. My proposal would transfer the State Council on the Arts from the Department of Economic Development to the lieutenant governor’s office. This is a streamlining move that should save the state some money.

I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
