Senator Karla May Takes Oath of Office to Serve 4th Senatorial District

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Karla May, D-St. Louis, joined an historic group of legislators when she took the oath of office to represent the 4th Senatorial District in the Missouri Senate. The 2019 legislative session marks the start of the 100th General Assembly.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of the City of St. Louis in the Missouri Senate,” said Sen. May. “I’m ready to get to work to ensure that now more than ever, the voices of the people of St. Louis are heard in the State Capitol. I believe a strong and vibrant St. Louis serves the best interest of our state, and I’m here to ensure that happens.”

Prior to coming to the Missouri Senate, Sen. May served in the Missouri House of representatives as the state representative of the 84th District. First elected in 2010, she served eight years in the Missouri House, serving on the Budget and Transportation committees, as well as serving as the ranking minority member of both the Subcommittee on Appropriations – Public Safety, Corrections, Transportation and Revenue and the Special Committee on Employment.

“I want to thank all those involved for their support over the years as we continue to fight to make Missouri a better place for all,” said Sen. May. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to find common ground and helping the people of the City of St. Louis as well as all Missourians.”
