Senator Shalonn “Kiki” Curls Introduces Resolution Designating Kansas City Chiefs as Missouri’s Official Professional Football Team
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Shalonn “Kiki” Curls, D-Kansas City, introduced a resolution in the Missouri Senate this week designating the Kansas City Chiefs as the official professional football team of the state of Missouri.
If approved by state lawmakers, Senate Concurrent Resolution 4 will honor Missouri’s only team in the National Football League. The Chiefs play a vital role in both the Kansas City and statewide economies.
“I am proud to support the Chiefs and their dedication to our city and state,” Sen. Curls said. “I hope this resolution demonstrates the team’s importance to our community.”
Since the Chiefs moved to Kansas City in 1963, they have remained intensely loyal to their home state. The team’s name comes from former Mayor Harold Roe Bartle, nicknamed “The Chief,” who was influential in bringing the Chiefs to Kansas City.
The Chiefs are one of professional football’s most renowned franchises, being part of the first Super Bowl and winning Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings. The team holds a 13-4 record in the current season and will play in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.
