Statement from Sen. Bob Onder Regarding the Introduction of Pro-Life Legislation on the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
Jefferson city — State Sen. Bob Onder, R-Lake St. Louis, introduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the Missouri Senate and issued the following statement:
“Today marks a tragic day in the history of our great country, the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. On this day, January 22, 1973, the US Supreme Court, in what J. Byron White called “an exercise of raw judicial power” struck down abortion laws in all 50 states. Despite this, in the last 46 years, operating under constitutional strictures that would have been unknown to our Founders, pro-life legislators have been able to make considerable progress in protecting the health and safety of women, protecting pregnancy care centers and doing what we can to defend innocent human life, especially late in pregnancy.
“Today I am introducing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. It has been said that societies will be remembered by how they protect their weakest and most vulnerable. Scientific and medical evidence is clear that unborn children feel pain, probably as early as seven weeks, and definitely by 20 weeks. With this act, Missouri will join 16 other states to protect these most vulnerable among us.”
