JEFFERSON CITY — As temperatures continue to plummet and stay in the single digits, Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Gina Walsh, D-Bellefontaine Neighbors, encourages everyone to seek shelter in a warm and safe environment and take proper precautions to ensure your pipes do not freeze as a result of the frigid conditions. “The low temperatures can make it difficult for many to get outside, but it is important to take proper precaution to prevent your pipes from freezing,” Walsh said. “When pipes freeze, it can be hours or days before warm running water is restored. Knowing how to winterize your home is key to staying warm during the coldest days of winter.” Keep in mind these tips on how to avoid frozen pipes this winter: · When temperatures stay below freezing, keep water moving through the pipes by allowing a small trickle of water to run. · Open doors to cabinets or vanities where pipes run through to let warmer room temperature air run through them. For those in need of shelter, warming stations can be found throughout St. Louis County. Warming stations allow those without immediate shelter a place to stay and avoid the harsh temperatures. Here are a few warming centers in our area, Affton Senior Center, Americorps, Christ Church Cathedral, Harvester Christian Church, Bridgeton Senior Center, Barr Branch Library, The Salvation Army – Temple Corps, St. Vincent Community Center, Covenant House Senior Center, Cherokee Center, and the St. Louis Activity Center. To locate a center near your neighborhood, please visit the Department of Health and Senior Services for a complete list of every warming center in your area. ### |
